Many questions in number theory concern the solutions of polynomials with integer coefficients over the integers or rational numbers, or modulo n for all natural numbers n, or over finite fields (which may be viewed as some kind of approximate solutions). The members of EDGE are geometers in mathematical centres spreading among most European countries. I can't help but feel that my lack of analysis training will come back to haunt me, which is why I'm also considering the following, less interesting combination of courses Note that the normal analysis course does not technically satisfy the assumed knowledge for complex analysis, but the lecturers inform me that I ``might be okay'' if I do very well in the normal course and do some extra work in my own time.

Geometry has always been tied closely to mathematical physics via the theory of differential equations. They introduce new research domains and both old and new conjectures in these different subjects show some interaction between other sciences close to mathematics. Other subfields of geometry represented in our Department include discrete geometry (which studies combinatorial properties of finite or discrete objects) and symplectic geometry (which studies objects with structure generalizing that of the phase space of certain dynamical systems).

After all, there isn't much else to a topology. why should I have to use the topology-induced metric? For example, a forest border might be at the edge of a stream, lake polygons might share borders with land-cover polygons and shorelines, and parcel polygons might be covered by parcel lot lines.
