The best post-undergrad mathematical investment you can make is to learn measure properly. Any two regular curves are locally isometric. However, the Theorema Egregium of Carl Friedrich Gauss showed that already for surfaces, the existence of a local isometry imposes strong compatibility conditions on their metrics: the Gaussian curvatures at the corresponding points must be the same. It’s hard to convey in just a few words what the subject is all about. A significant development at Georgia Tech is the high number of recent hires in geometry and topology.
